Icebreaker question:

How do you like your potatoes?

How do you like your potatoes? ✞

Special Request

Please consider taking a photo (or several) of your small group at one of its midweek gatherings, so that we can give folks a glimpse into the program. Please send any such photos to Garrett. Thanks!

Begin your midweek Spotlight with the song Native Tongue, performed by Switchfoot.

Songs, of course, can be interpreted all sorts of ways. Various interpretations are invited and allowed. For a moment, let’s go with the interpretation that this song isn’t so much about one individual but about humanity as a whole.
Discuss: What does it mean that love is our native tongue?

Watch this snippet from Garrett's preaching this Sunday.

Follow that up with the following two tasks:

  • Take your best guess as to the one person in your life who most needs to hear this (is it possibly you?) and maybe share who you chose with your group.

  • Discuss: Why might some people feel embarrassed about the very idea of going to church?

Watch this video on the world being embarrassed, created by our friends at BibleProject.

Discuss:

  • What does it mean for your life that Jesus turns everything upside down?

  • What does it mean for the greater Winona community that Jesus turns everything upside down?

  • How does this video relate to Garrett’s words about embarrassment and death?

Finish up with the song Child of Love by We the Kingdom.

(Wouldn't this be a great one to add to our Sunday song list?)
